Feeling like I'm somehow unclean (mental contamination)

Feeling contaminated doesn't mean you have become unclean.

Feeling contaminated can be very real. It says nothing bad about you or your body.

What is it?

It may feel as though the abuse left an inner stain you can't wash away. Memories, situations, or ordinary everyday things can bring that feeling back.

How can it happen?

Shame, disgust, and reminders of the abuse can become linked. Some people try washing to ease the feeling, but the relief may not last.

Supportive words

Feeling contaminated doesn't mean there's anything wrong with me or my body.

What it does not mean
